For iOS and Android users this can be done by connecting your smartphone to the car. For Android the Connected app first needs to be opened, for iOS this is not necessary. Then, open the respective third party app on your phone to use the app in your vehicle. Please note that for iOS devices a confirmation is required on the mobile device to start the third party app. Your BMW will need to be equipped with BMW Apps Interface to be able to use this feature. In addition there is the option of direct to car music streaming (BMW Online Entertainment). This provides a subscription with unlimited data within your BMW to a choice of music provider (currently Deezer or Napster). To see if this is available for your BMW please visit the BMW ConnectedDrive Store at www.bmw-connecteddrive.nsc.
If you receive an error message when opening the BMW Connected App, you must check whether your smartphone is compatible with the BMW Connected App. You can check this by uninstalling the BMW Connected App and downloading the latest version from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. If the download is not possible, your smartphone is not compatible with the BMW Connected App or the latest BMW Connected version.
Under “Manage mobile devices”, make sure that your smartphone is paired correctly and the function “Apps” is activated for the connected device. The BMW Connected App as well as selected and BMW approved apps, such as Spotify or TuneIn, can be used in the vehicle via
“Media/Radio”, “Navigation” and “ConnectedDrive”, depending on the function. Android users must also have installed and started the BMW Connected App on their smartphone in order to use apps in the vehicle.
