Yes. The BMW Connected App must be installed on your smartphone to use the Digital Key.  In addition your vehicle must be added to your ConnectedDrive Account.

Should you encounter unexpected behaviour we suggest you proceed as follows: If you are using an Android smartphone first check whether the [accessory mode] under [ConnectedDrive] [BMW Apps] [connection assistant] has been activated. In addition we also recommend that you unplug and reconnect the smartphone, close the BMW Connected app via the app manager and restart it. If you still can not view any BMW Connected functions, we recommend that you carry out the self-diagnosis function included in the app. In rare cases restarting the smartphone can also help. Apple smartphones are restarted by simultaneously pressing and holding down the "Home" and "Standby" buttons for at least ten seconds until the Apple logo appears. On Android phones the "Standby" button has to be pressed for several seconds and then the "Turn off" option followed by a restart has to be selected.

No. The transfer of telematics data will only take place from the SIM card installed in the vehicle to the BMW server. The data will then be forwarded to authorised third parties from the BMW servers at your request.

When not connected to Wi-Fi, the app will consume mobile network data for some features. In particular, when using the map on the "Destinations" tab, mobile data may be used to download additional map layers and information. However, the map is cached when possible to reduce the amount of mobile data consumed.

Log in to your BMW ConnectedDrive Account in the BMW Connected App and make sure that your vehicle is added to your account.  If the menu “Digital Key” appears in the BMW Connected App, your vehicle is able to use the Digital Key. Select the menu “Digital Key” to check the compatibility of your smartphone.

Under “Manage mobile devices”, make sure that your smartphone is paired correctly and the function “Apps” is activated for the connected device. The BMW Connected App as well as selected and BMW approved apps, such as Spotify or TuneIn, can be used in the vehicle via “Media/Radio”, “Navigation” and “ConnectedDrive”, depending on the function. Android users must also have installed and started the BMW Connected App on their smartphone in order to use apps in the vehicle.

Make sure that the Bluetooth function is activated on the mobile device and in the vehicle. If no automatic connection is possible check the display on your mobile device:  Some mobile devices require a confirmation in order to establish a connection for the current and following connections.  More information can be found in the instruction manual of your mobile device.

In the main menu of the BMW Connected App select "Vehicle" and then select the vehicle to be deleted from the account. Confirm "Delete" by swiping from right to left.

The data transmission of the service "Internet" in your BMW is enabled though the built-in vehicle SIM card. Via the iDrive Controller the menu as well as the entries are controlled. Content is displayed via the head unit of your BMW. A data connection via your smartphone is therefore not necessary.

Open the website www.bmw.com/bluetooth to check whether your smartphone is compatible with your BMW. Prior to reconnecting: Delete your vehicle from the list of known devices in your smartphone's Bluetooth menu. Delete your smartphone from the list of known devices under "manage mobile devices" in your vehicle. The pairing process must be carried out within 30 seconds after the code is displayed in the vehicle.

Upon switching on the phone function in the vehicle the last connected mobile device is automatically searched. If the device is not found within a certain time period the vehicle will automatically search the next mobile device in the list of mobile devices. It is possible for the vehicle to go through the list several times.
