Telematics data are transmitted from the vehicle to a server operated by BMW using a secure connection on a private sub-network of a mobile service provider that is only accessible tor BMW vehicles. This does not require the customer to have a private mobile phone, as communication takes place via a SIM card installed in the vehicle at the factory.

The use of the internet in your BMW on the front screen is also possible while not in motion. As soon as you are driving your BMW will switch off all contents. By booking the option "Rear Seat Entertainment" the internet can be used in the rear while driving.

The My Car Is Born feature is an innovative way of sharing information about the progress of your new car as it is being built and delivered to you. You will receive a series of updates in the BMW Connected app regarding the status of your order, along with information about additional options and services, all personalised to you (only available in certain markets).

If available the number of persons in the vehicle is determined via a seat occupation recognition technology (on the passengers' side in the front). If not available the seat belt status is used (also for the back row).

Your activation code for My Car Is Born is provided in the welcome email from your BMW dealer, which is sent after you order your new vehicle. When you receive your code, type it into the associated field on the My Car Is Born page within the BMW Connected app. If you didn't receive a welcome email, please contact your dealer and ask for a new email to be sent.

Depending on the model type, the "Intelligent eCall" is activated upon delivery in current models from March 2013 onwards. We therefore recommend not to refuse the activation of ConnectedDrive Services following the purchase of the vehicle. This activation process will ensure quick and reliable help in case of an emergency.

If the message "Connection not possible" repeatedly appears in your vehicle when you try to execute various BMW ConnectedDrive services, please first make sure if your vehicle is connected to the mobile network. This is often the case in underground parking garages for example. Is this not the case, please contact your BMW Service partner.

You can use personalized services in your BMW by logging in to the BMW ConnectedDrive Portal with your access data in your vehicle. In order to do so select the menu point "ConnectedDrive" in the main menu and then select "BMW Online". Now press the "Option" button on your iDrive Controller. Then select the menu point "Login". Here, first insert your e-mail address and confirm with "OK". Following this enter your password and again confirm with "OK". We recommend to enable "Auto-login" by checking the box next to it. Please note however, that this will enable every vehicle user to access your personal data (e-mail, address book, etc.).

Your vehicle must be telematics-enabled and it must be allocated to your customer account in the ConnectedDrive Portal. All important telematics data that were transferred to and stored on a BMW server from this time onwards are accessible to BMW CarData.

Keep calm. A voice connection to the BMW Call Centre will be established. Safety reasons mean that you cannot terminate the voice connection yourself. Tell the person you are talking to the reason for the emergency call. If you do not respond to the Call Centre agent’s questions, he/she will assume that there is an emergency situation and will inform the nearest emergency services unit of an accident. You must therefore report that you have triggered the emergency call by accident; otherwise you may incur financial costs.

Under “Manage mobile devices”, make sure that your smartphone is paired correctly and the function “Phone” is activated for the connected device. Incoming calls are now received via the iDrive System. In the menu “Communication” outgoing calls can be made by selecting either “Contacts”, “Recent calls” or “Dial number”. For the phone function your BMW’s audio reproduction and microphone is used.

A SIM-card is pre installed in your BMW. BMW ConnectedDrive services operate using this SIM-card and therefore no additional roaming costs are prevalent.

In order to send points of interest from Google Maps to your vehicle, you are required to have the special equipment option "ConnectedDrive Services". Please activate the sending of destinations to your vehicle via partner websites in the "Send to Car" menu. If you are using the new Google Maps you need to login with your Google account in order to use the "Send to car" feature in the full map view.

All BMW models fitted with the option code 6AK ("ConnectedDrive Services") or 6NR ("Apps") and the Professional navigation system can draw on all functions in conjunction with a smartphone and the BMW Connected App, which is available free of charge from the Apple Store or Google Store. In addition, you should also have a suitable mobile phone contract. Some of the BMW Connected applications make intensive use of broadband data services (e.g. Web radio).

The ConnectedDrive Store in Car offers the possibility of purchasing all available ConnectedDrive Services directly from your vehicle. You can find an overview of all purchased services for your vehicle. Also you can see when certain services will expire. In addition you can find an overview of all services that can be purchased for your vehicle.

After successfully pairing your smartphone the connected device can be selected via “Manage mobile devices”. Following this, the functions “Telephone”, “Bluetooth-Audio” or “Apps” can be activated or deactivated.
