Check in the BMW Connected App, if the menu “Digital Key” is displayed. If the menu is available, your vehicle is able to use the Digital Key. Note: You must be logged in to your BMW ConnectedDrive Account in the BMW Connected App and your vehicle must be added to your account. Alternatively: Check if the option “Comfort Access (SA 322)” in connection with a Navigation System “Live Cockpit (SA 6U1/6U2/6U3)” is booked for your vehicle. If these options are booked for your vehicle the Digital Key is available in your BMW.
BMW collects and stores vehicle positions in anonymised form to provide traffic flow services (Floating Car Data).
The FCD service is carried out to collect current information about road traffic on the existing navigation and ConnectedDrive platforms.
Each ConnectedDrive-enabled vehicle constitutes a "mobile traffic reporter" (Floating Car).
The positional and sensor data collected while driving these vehicles are transferred to the BMW ConnectedDrive centre and the contractually stipulated traffic service provider together with the current time information.
The data are processed in completely anonymous form following their transfer.
This is done free of charge.
Data transfer is also deactivated as soon as the SIM card installed in the vehicle is deactivated.
The traffic information service, including FCD can be deactivated by sending a written request to BMW Customer Services.
With our cooperation partner Nuance® the transformation of voice information into text is carried out via the pre-installed vehicle SIM-card. The message itself is sent via the SIM-card of your paired smartphone.
The ConnectedDrive Store in Car offers the possibility of purchasing all available ConnectedDrive Services directly from your vehicle. You can find an overview of all purchased services for your vehicle. Also you can see when certain services will expire. In addition you can find an overview of all services that can be purchased for your vehicle.
Your individual settings will automatically be saved in a profile and assigned to the used remote key upon leaving the vehicle. When reusing the same remote key for the vehicle the assigned settings are automatically set in the vehicle. Driver profiles are part of BMW ConnectedDrive. They combine various settings for radio stations, Hi-Fi systems, navigation, favorites buttons, seats, mirrors, seering column, camera, lights, central door locking, head-up display, air conditioning, language, driving assistance systems and driveability. You can use up to three driver profiles as well as one guest profile. The different driver profiles can be selected via the control display from the onboard computer. Here it is possible to rename, delete or export your profile on to a USB stick in order to use it in another BMW. With certain older BMW models driver profiles cannot be viewed in the vehicle.
Keep calm. A voice connection to the BMW Call Centre will be established. Safety reasons mean that you cannot terminate the voice connection yourself. Tell the person you are talking to the reason for the emergency call. If you do not respond to the Call Centre agent’s questions, he/she will assume that there is an emergency situation and will inform the nearest emergency services unit of an accident. You must therefore report that you have triggered the emergency call by accident; otherwise you may incur financial costs.
Numerous electronic components in your vehicle contain memories that temporarily store information about the vehicle state and potential fault events. These data serve to identify faults and to repair these. In order to provide BMW ConnectedDrive services some of the data stored in the vehicle are forwarded to the BMW server in the form of telematics data via the permanently installed SIM card.
Your vehicle must be telematics-enabled and it must be allocated to your customer account in the ConnectedDrive Portal. All important telematics data that were transferred to and stored on a BMW server from this time onwards are accessible to BMW CarData.
Depending on the model type, the "Intelligent eCall" is activated upon delivery in current models from March 2013 onwards. We therefore recommend not to refuse the activation of ConnectedDrive Services following the purchase of the vehicle. This activation process will ensure quick and reliable help in case of an emergency.
