Prior to using the function, please check the if the following requirements are met: Your BMW s equipped with the latest generation of the Navigation System Professional or Business and you have purchased the BMW ConnectedDrive Services Option (SA6AK) ex-factory as well as the dictation function via the BMW ConnectedDrive Store.
You can also use your access data to My BMW ConnectedDrive on the Internet when you are in your vehicle to operate BMW ConnectedDrive services that work with your personal data. To obtain a faster yet equally safe login inside the vehicle, you can create a short vehicle login (alias) in the Settings/My Data menu.
You have to download the application onto your mobile end device before you can use the BMW Connected App in the vehicle. In the case of an Apple iPhone, please use the Apple App Store for this purpose, in the case of an Android phone download is via the Google Play Store.
The term telematics data refers to data that are generated in your vehicle and transferred via an installed SIM card to the BMW Server in order to provide networked services such as BMW ConnectedDrive or BMW Teleservices.
Depending on the use of ConnectedDrive services by the driver, the vehicle usually takes this decision itself.
Moreover, BMW can explicitly trigger the transfer of telematics data to BMW servers for rendering ConnectedDrive services.
Once your vehicle has transmitted telematics data to BMW, you can retrieve the currently saved telematics data for your BMW from the BMW CarData data archive. If no data has been transmitted, no entries will be shown in the data archive. This may apply, for example, to older vehicles without active teleservices.
Telematics data are transmitted from the vehicle to a server operated by BMW using a secure connection on a private sub-network of a mobile service provider that is only accessible tor BMW vehicles. This does not require the customer to have a private mobile phone, as communication takes place via a SIM card installed in the vehicle at the factory.
Under “Manage mobile devices”, make sure that your smartphone is paired correctly and the function “Phone” is activated for the connected device. Incoming calls are now received via the iDrive System. In the menu “Communication” outgoing calls can be made by selecting either “Contacts”, “Recent calls” or “Dial number”. For the phone function your BMW’s audio reproduction and microphone is used.
For reasons of convenience and security, the one-off entry of your means of payment for bookings in the BMW ConnectedDrive Store is only possible in the customer portal. Inside the vehicle you access the details recorded via a secure data connection.
With our cooperation partner Nuance® the transformation of voice information into text is carried out via the pre-installed vehicle SIM-card. The message itself is sent via the SIM-card of your paired smartphone.
Your vehicle must be telematics-enabled and it must be allocated to your customer account in the ConnectedDrive Portal. All important telematics data that were transferred to and stored on a BMW server from this time onwards are accessible to BMW CarData.
You can find addresses or destinations which you send to your vehicle as "My Info" in the menu CONNECTEDDRIVE/MESSAGES. You can accept the address of the point of interest for route directions by pressing a button in the navigation system. If there is a telephone number for the point of interest and you have connected your mobile phone with the vehicle, you can dial the number directly.
In case you have already created a driver profile in your vehicle, which is however not active yet - meaning you are driving in "guest" mode - you must first activate the profile. Following this return to the ConnectedDrive Store and continue with the purchase.
If the message "Connection not possible" repeatedly appears in your vehicle when you try to execute various BMW ConnectedDrive services, please first make sure if your vehicle is connected to the mobile network. This is often the case in underground parking garages for example. Is this not the case, please contact your BMW Service partner.
For iOS and Android users this can be done by using the BMW Connected app on your phone and connecting your smartphone to the car. Then you can import your meetings and appointments in the app. Then you`ll receive time to leave notifications.
From the main menu of your in-car screen, select "ConnectedDrive" and then "Messages". You can choose to start guidance to the destination directly from within the message.
If the option to start guidance is not clickable, or destinations do not show up at all in the "Messages" folder, your vehicle’s software likely needs to be updated. Please contact your local BMW dealer to inquire about getting a software update.
